With the right wall anchor, drywall can support 30–50 lbs per anchor point in good condition. For heavier mirrors or large canvases, we use multiple anchor points or locate studs. Anything above 50 lbs or with significant depth gets anchored into framing whenever possible.
A French cleat system mounts flush to the wall and supports very heavy pieces with no visible hardware on the face. We size and install the cleat into the framing above the mantel and attach the mating piece to the back of the mirror.
